Voyeur has been consistently awesome on Thursday nights with their weekly event Nite Vision, and this Thursday they are doing it again with the U.K.-based DJ/producer Switch. Best known for his work with M.I.A. and alongside Diplo as Major Lazer, Switch has released singles under his own name and produced and remixed tracks for many artists, including the Chemical Brothers, Bjork, Nine Inch Nails, Underworld and Basement Jaxx. Last time he played at Voyeur, the place went nuts. Rounding out the evening will be Paul Devro from Los Angeles. When he’s not being the creative director for Diplo’s record label, Mad Decent, Devro is touring all over the world, bringing his dance music to the masses. This is definitely a night you don’t want to miss at Voyeur!
I know it isn’t a DJ night per se, but I can’t overlook the awesomeness that will be the Tragic Tantrum CD release party. After over a year of blood, sweat and tears, this local band will be unveiling its debut album — Mirror, Mirror — on Friday night at the Ruby Room. The party will also feature Harlequin Jones from Los Angeles and a cast of dark circus performers who will grace the inside and outside spaces of the venue. Plus, beats you can dance to will be provided, courtesy of Uptown Murderous, and Sean Cute will be celebrating his birthday — and let’s not forget about Vlad the Rocking Horse. This is not just any rocking horse, mind you; we’re talking over 7-feet high and weighing in at 1,200 pounds. Now, this is a horse you really want to ride. For more info about the event, go here. If future disco, space-y house and tech-y grooves are more your style, make your way to Kadan on Friday for Moonshake. Mark E. Quark will be celebrating his birthday, and you can enjoy an early happy hour set by Pavlik, starting at 8 p.m. Local DJ Why-T and My Cousin Roy from NYC will also be part of the lineup, along with resident DJs Bob Dazzla and Dr. Indulgent.
Saturday is the dark underground monthly music night at the Kava Lounge that is known as Ascension. Tom King and I love hosting and spinning during this event, which will feature special guest DJs LadyNoir and ChadO. Plus, live artist Billy Martinez will be painting some dark Valentine’s-themed images specifically catered for this event. Billy has worked in the comic industry since 1996, and his credits include Heavy Metal Magazine, the Sci-Fi Channel’s The Chronicle and The Family Guy trading cards for Inkworks. Go here for more details.
